Pete,
Regarding the white lines left by the glue, use a flat iron set to medium heat and iron along the lines. Move fast enough to keep the wood from burning. I had the same problem back in early Jan. when the temps dropped in my garage to freezing after I left for the night. After I faired the hull, they were still there so I tried the above and it worked great for me. I really didn't like the pin stripe effect. Just tell the wife you going to iron the laundry for her. hehehe
: Stripping alfresco wasn't going too well with yellow glue, what with the
: freezing temps at night and the high humidity during the day. You can see
: some white lines between strips where the yellow glue froze and turned to
: chalk. Rob Macks mentioned that he used polyurethane glue on his decks
: because heat doesn't soften it and make joints creep, so I tried it. This
: stuff bubbles and foams and expands by a factor of 2 or 3, as can be seen
: in the pic. A small dot of Gorilla Glue, as small as could be applied, was
: placed every 4" and the strips clamped as usual. After installing 5
: strips this way I hit it a lick with the block plane, and the results are
: shown below. The right side of the pic is untouched, and the left shows
: that the blobs disappear, and the joints do not open up under the pressure
: of the glue expanding. No nasty surprises, and the glue though expensive
: goes a very long way. Haven't tried it on planed strips yet.
