The most effective solution is a fan but the problem is heating the great outdoors. However you cut it, if you are blowing air out of the room, more is coming in from someplace to replace it. Air to air heat exchangers minimize this heat loss and can be installed to put positive pressure on anything from a room (window mount) to a whole house (ducted through the walls). Essentially, the intake air is pre-warmed by the exhaust air by running it through the equivilant of a radiator. These were designed for air tight houses in colder climates but are also good for high humidity conditions and other things such as your fume problems. I would consider it if you were going to use the basement option for an extended period. Looks like this thread has run its course -- too bad, it was fun watching it.
