: Instead of cutting the camper cap down, why not bolt a ledger to your truck
: sides to increase the base for the cap.

I've seen this done with a couple of boards and some scrap angle iron brackets. It was a bit wider so it left a usable shelf inside and a lot more volume. It looked ok from outside, too.
