: If you mean as a pattern for another boat, I can see your point.
: But as far as the Bayou 2 itself.... I'm wonder about the loss
: of the secure storage area. (novice kayaker bailing out of upside
: down boat) From a Stand point of both my son and I in the boat
: at the same time... still less that 50 pounds of gear. Or less
: than 30 (after taking into account the water sloshing around).
: And I already got told how I need to put him in his own boat :-).
I was thinking of you needing a boat with a hull this big for yourself. In a pinch it could handle the two of you, but mostly you would want this as a solo boat. There had been some discussion of a canoe, so the big, open, cockpit did not seem to be an issue. As for secure storage -- well you don't have any in a canoe either, and that has not stopped people from using canoes. Gear can be packed in waterproof bags which will float. Stuff that can tolerate getting wet, like my dirty laundry, pots and pans, and food containers that are individually sealed watertight, goes in a plastic garbage bag which goes in an ordinary pack.
I use a very short piece of rope around a thwart and a carabiner clipped onto my packs to tie my gear into my canoe. The rope is far too short to trap me, and the carabiner lets me separate the gear from the boat in a hurry. In the event of a spill I can flip the boat over without having to also lift the gear. Once the boat is righted I pull in my gear.
