With more thought that sounds right, since the glass tends to float in the resin.
Vacuum bagging will provide the lightest weight layup but I feel it is more work than I want to do at this point.

: I used to think so. But a couple years ago I was in Michigan at a boat
: builder's show sponsored by West Systems. Their tech guys claimed with two
: layers of glass MORE resin stayed in the cloth because the two layers were
: more sponge like and squeegeeing off excess resin was less effective.
: WHERE one layer squeegeed against a hard surface allowed more resin to be
: removed resulting in a lower weight lay-up. I do it this way now. Not much
: difference time wise, you have to apply fill coats anyway.
: It's less likely you have trapped air bubble problems applying one layer at a
: time. And it is easier for people new to glassing.
: Good enough reasons for me to use it and recommend it to others.
