Thanks for the tip. I also found it worked well to to start the feathering.

: Steve, Remove the strands now with a scraper. It's quick and easy. I feather
: before the fill coats. Becareful not to sand into the main glass layer.
: There will likely be a few divits around your feathering, use the fill
: coats to fill these.
