looking for suggestions (experience?) in canoe masts. i want to play around with different ways of rigging my canoe for sailing before i settle on a permanent solution. i can figure out ways to clamp on lee boards without disturbing (permanently) the look of the canoe, and can work out a way to secure the mast at the gunnel level that will allow changing position, but i don't have a good way to fix the foot of the mast on the floor of the canoe that would allow changing the placement without messing up the bottom of the canoe (strip/figerglass). i have considered gluing a wooden step to the bottom with silicon type cememt/caulk hoping that it could be peeled off without leaving a mark (also hoping that it would be strong enough to support the forces involved. i could experiment with the cement on some scrap, but thought i would first search for input from someone's who has "been there; done that; regretted it". any suggestions?
thanks j
