: looking for suggestions (experience?) in canoe masts. i want to play around
: with different ways of rigging my canoe for sailing before i settle on a
: permanent solution. i can figure out ways to clamp on lee boards without
: disturbing (permanently) the look of the canoe, and can work out a way to
: secure the mast at the gunnel level that will allow changing position, but
: i don't have a good way to fix the foot of the mast on the floor of the
: canoe that would allow changing the placement without messing up the
: bottom of the canoe (strip/figerglass). i have considered gluing a wooden
: step to the bottom with silicon type cememt/caulk hoping that it could be
: peeled off without leaving a mark (also hoping that it would be strong
: enough to support the forces involved. i could experiment with the cement
: on some scrap, but thought i would first search for input from someone's
: who has "been there; done that; regretted it". any suggestions?
: thanks j

assuming the three thwarts are 7 ft apart(0,3.5,7), what abt a 7'6 1x4 diagonally braced w/ either lines or 18 in rods(or 1x1) from both outside thwart's gunnel locations. little knobs for each mast possibility. or a clamped carriage if fancy. maybe a little brace vertically from the ctr of eachthwart just to help set up a bit.

if by any chance there are 3 lines up to the mast, then 3 or 4 lines down to the step'll be ok. same thing.
