: I built a two by four box beam, using 1/2 inch plywood. I picked out the best
: sheet that I could out of the stack. It was warped a little, but not too
: bad. I used the plans in Nick's book for the beam. I dry fitted it and it
: looked good, then glued it up. This morning I took all the clamps off and
: found that I had a 1/2 inch bow in the side of the beam. It is straight on
: the top. I just wondered if anyone knows of a way to straighten a plywood
: beam.
: A workaround will be to enlarge the cutouts in the forms, but I had rather
: straighten the beam if it is feasible.
: Always,

Ron, I used cabinet grade 11/16ths you just have to figure out the dimensions a little due to the thicker wood but hey that and a little extra for wood. I paid $42 at home depot, is worth it. You can typically get really straight cabinet grade. Alot less screwing around trying to get it straight. I did'nt glue mine either I just screwed it together because I want to tear it down to store it. Unless I just have to make another right away.haha.
A second thought: I used the mdf for the forms as that is straighter too. It is only $4 per 2x4 sheet which is perfect to glue your form plans onto. The little bit extra left i made the stem forms and a bunch of the C blocks for going staple-less. What kind of kayak are you building?
Good luck, and have fun,Elliott
