: My first thought was, "Wouldn't it be difficult to glass the inside and
: outside of a lapstrake boat?" Are you by any chance thinking of
: planking it carvel-style?

My thought is to build it stripper style, upside down over forms, laying it up with .25" x 1.25" redwood strips (redwood because I have stacks of salvaged redwood taking up garden space), smooth-sided inside and out. Then glass the outside, brace temporarily from sheer to sheer, remove from forms, glass the inside, fit and install ribs using epoxy resin adhesive, and finally covering the ribs with light-weight glass to assure adherence. Technically, I believe it would lose the designation of "wherry" if it's not lap-strake, but I'm not a stickler for historical accuracy anyway. My choice of the wherry style is based on a love of the lines seen in wherries, pilot gigs, whitehalls, etc. Those lines appeal to me in much the same way that Marilyn Monroe appeals to me more than todays skin-and-bones beauties. A thirties-style CrissCraft runabout might be the project after that for much the same reasons.

For what it's worth, I found a handy source of large-grid paper to use when scaling up plans to full size. The local Wal-Mart stocks a Hallmark wrapping paper that comes in a 30" x72" roll. On the backside it has 1" grid-lines normally used to assist in cutting straight lines. Using this as graph paper made it easy to scale up to full size from a 1/4 size drawing on two sheets of 8.5" x 11" graph paper.
