My only experience with quarter-sawn material is the white oak I have used in making Mission Oak reproduction furniture. It is pretty much mandatory for us "Stickley-heads". The cost of it is outrageous because there is so much waste involved and so few boards in a log. The oak can be tricky to work with. We are all so used to using flat rift sawn wood that it takes a bit of getting used to. When planing, the unique ray flake pattern can make for some rough surfacing and it can also be tricky to get consistent results when sanding because of the variations in wood density. I know oak and cedar are two different animals and the applications are entirely different, but would be interested to hear of how it works out for you. Keep us posted.

If you ever want to get into the real minutae of differences in wood, "Understanding Wood" by R. Bruce Hoadley is a pretty fun read. It's put out by Taunton Press and they do their usual great job. Very detailed, very interesting.
