My misunderstanding. I didn't take this statement as meaning "through-holes." My idea of slots is the same as a groove. I see what you mean about holding, but If I am now reading you right, your through-slots can only run a few inches before haveing to stop. You would have to have solid sections somewhere and that means you can't put a clamp in those spots. Whereas, with the 3/4" plywood, the 1/4" x 5/16" slot can run all the way around and still be strong enough to hold the strip and plywood lip. In the picture David has the strips clamped to the forms and also has clamps W/foam pads holding the strips in place all along the length of the boat. He uses 1 1/8" strips on his kayaks and canoes and the clamps hold over the glued strip and onto the previous one. He is also glueing up the foot-ball at the same time. I also like the idea of having the little brackets clamped on the forms for holding matched strip pairs to be applied to each side of the boat.

Just curious..... As it seems you were already set in the way you were going to do this, why did you ask??
