Spidey,
I did tear one strip, and a few others are just stubborn. One I caught the edge of the blade with and and it splintered a piece of the strip out. Believe it or not, the piece that came out was big enough for me to glue back in! In a couple other areas either the grain structure or dryness of the strips gave me a hard time. I learned on the first boat to leave these for the sander.
Overall, I think planing is one of the most rewarding parts of the project. The boat starts looking sharp and you can see where the time spent making tight joints pays off.
What are you building this year Spidey?
Dwight
: Hi Dwight;
: Looks great from here! I like the deck design on your new 'yak - Smoooth . .
: .
: Since you just finished planing it, care to report if you experienced any
: "tearing" of the wood by the plane? I've been in some other
: threads on this topic and would be curious as to your experiences.
: Keep up the great work, Spidey
