My first boat building experience has been incredible fun. There will definitely be more to come, but they won't be built in the family room as this one was. We have been married 54 years, but we won't make it to #55 if I even think about doing one there again. Started October 11th and launched March 10th, taking 260 hours of shop time. The hull is 4 Mil Okume, the deck is 1/4 inch X 5/4 cedar, 4 oz. fiberglass with extra layers at special stress and/or wear points. The recessed deck fittings and flush hatch hardware were purchased from Eric Schade. The momnogram on the bow is an Old English G.

The Sea Spirit, designed by Bobby Curtis, is a very low volume, hard chine kayak, 18.5 feet X 21 inches, 43#, that handles beautifully in rough water. A great tracker. The rear deck is especially low, which allows you to lay back on it for easy rolling and sculling.

Having a completed new boat means that my Outer Island (built by Eric Schade in 1997) can go into dry dock for O&R.
