Hi Mike:

The reason I am asking the question is that my hull is already made of quite dark (almost chocolate) western red cedar. The deck is gonna be some western red, white pine, and then redwood.

when dry, the western red is actually darker than the redwood. when wetted out, they are pretty close although the redwood is a shade, well, redder, than brown.
