: I'm planning on fitting a teak block in the stern of my GB to accomodate a
: rudder in case I want to install one in the future. I'm also planning on
: glassing teak rails on the inside of the hull to mount the footpegs. I
: chose teak because it's a hardwood that I think will be resistant to rot
: if it's epoxy encapsulation should eventually fail. Anyway, I know teak
: has some natural oils and I was wondering if any particular pretreatment
: would be suggested before epoxying.
: Thanks,
: Jim
Some epoxy manufacturers recommend first choosing the less oily pieces then sanding and wiping with acetone or MEK. I have had some problems with the oiliest strips, no adhesive I tried worked well.
