BTW, here are a couple other tips. Garden variety caulks finish out smooth, and show all imperfections in technique. The textured Vulkem really is more forgiving. Other manufacturers may have something similar now, but make sure it's polyurethane and not some cheap acrylic or even silicone. The acrylics will give up too soon. The silicones have excellent cohesion, but they lose adhesion to the wood over time and then they leak.

If you gun slowly and carefully on the straight runs, no tooling is necessary and that really speeds things up. A swipe in each of the two "start" corners is all the touchup required when you're up the learning curve.
