On a dollar for dollar basis, compared with hp guns, that is absolutely true. One has to spend some serious dollars to purchase a high quality hvlp gun. Something you will not be able to purchase through places like Harbor Freight. Interestingly, according to many of the body shops I know, they actually prefer the finish they get with the good (expensive) hvlp guns to older hp guns.
