In lots of epoxy projects using lots of different varnishes and finishes, I have never found an incompatibility. My favorite remains "House Beautiful" Spar Varnish obtained from Walmart at $6/gallon. It rags on easily, dries quickly, and has plenty of UV protectant. Walmart (unfortunately) no longer carries that product. not many buyers of spar varnish judging from the dust on the cans I bought . . .

My point is that like most finishes, there are not many differences in formulations - - If you want to pay $25/qt that is your choice, but this stuff is not rocket science . . . It's been around for years, and there are no secrets. Ingredients just do not vary that much from mfr. to mfr.
