I have. I built a Chesapeake one time and used (Red Lead) body fairing stuff that comes in a tube. I believe it's a laquer based filler.
I used it over the epoxy for the final little dimples etc. Painted over it with Interlux brightside one-part polyurathane. Perfect. No problems. Sands easier than epoxy and dries sandable in 10 minutes. My brother still has the boat which is now about 5 years old. No paint problems.
