: Tell us, what is their one-piece fix?
-------------------------
Cut and paste from the email:
"We would probably do a "bullet patch." To do this, we fit the two pieces back together with epoxy, splint them to keep them straight and let this set overnight. Next morning we sand a flat arc through one side of the shaft
down to the center of the shaft. We then glue in 3-4 thin laminates of doug fir, pine, walnut and/or ash (depending on the original layup of
the shaft) and let this set overnight. Next day we do the same
to the other side of the shaft.
Next day we sand all the protruding wood back to the original shaft
dimensions of the shaft, smooth it all up, seal and varnish it and voila: a new
paddle. Cost: $15.00 plus freight"
I think this was the same suggestion that one of you gentlemen made. I am going with the ferrule method so the paddle will ride better on my back deck as a spare.
