After experimentation, I found that 3/8" wide strips, which lie 1/4" seam to seam when bead and coved, with curve around a 1/4" raduis curve with little loss in thickness when final sanded to a round surface. It takes five 3/8" strips to equal two 3/4" strips, so you waste a lot of material. Compared to the value of a finished boat, however, the price of the wood is pretty small.
