Yah Guys! that's part of the North Star Baidarka design. And so are the angle changes made by the bow and tail mini decks. I've seen people who strip right to the stems on the North Star. I won't tell you what I think about it.

BTW the first picture on the link to Doug's North Star baidarka page is way out of proportion. The boat pictured (and the kid paddling it) are shortened by almost 1/3. I couldn't beleive how strange this picture looked to me. until I realized what was wrong. That's what happens when you try to picture a long kayak on a narrow page.
