A while ago my dad had a minor injury to his shoulder. It was so minor, he doesn't even remember how it happened. But as a result, he favored that shoulder for a while, and never saw a doctor. A couple of months went by, and he noticed that his range of motion had become severely limited in that shoulder. That's when he finally went to the doctor. He ended up having to do very painful stretching-type excercises for a couple of months to get his range of motion back. He was in his late forties then, and is completely healed now.

My only advice is to do whatever excercises are prescribed, and be prepared for more pain during the recovery. Sorry.
