: Would it work to use masking tape in your situation? Before glassing, run a
: line of masking tape along the sheer so that the top edge of the tape is
: where you want the edge of the glass to be--then use a razor knife to trim
: the glass at the tape edge while it's still a little green and pull off
: the tape. Voila! Nice clean line.

This is what I was thinking also, One ocean Kayak site has a great description of how this is done. It is clean and relatively easy.
