When I did my first kayak I found a glitch in the build technique that I thought I'd share to maybe save someone else some hassles.
When fitting a small strip it is sometimes necessary to mark the shape from below with a pencil. When one does this the pencil makes a mark on the edge of the strips that are already glued in place as well as the face of the strip to be cut.
The mark on the strip to be cut will easily be planed/sanded off. However, the mark on the edge of the already glued strip needs to be sanded off prior to gluing the new strip in place. A couple of times I forgot to do this and when I started to sand the kayak pencil lines came up to the surface. I had to sand quite a ways to remove the lines.
Hope this helps someone save a lot of work.
