I have been steaming strips like that.."in situ" with an old kettle and a piece of "scat" tube" (flexible, heat resistant tubing used in aircraft) I had lying around. I aimed the tube at the strip where I wanted the most twist and twisted the strip, hanging a clamp on the end to hold the twist. Then draped a towel over the area to be steamed and cranked up the kettle. After about 10 minutes, or when the kettle was out of water, I shut off the kettle and went away to let it heat soak and then dry. (that was the hardest step inthe process,..... leaving it alone)
Since all the neighbouring strips were clamped down securely, I didn't have to worry about the steam loosening them. As a matter of fact, it helped in a couple of spots wjere there was a bit of pulling away from the form. I added a little bracing to hold it tight, and the steam helped make the offending area lay down better. I was a little worried about glue letting go in these spots, but I figured I had nothing to lose, and I came out ahead there. I could have done the same thing with the strip held in a jig elsewhere, but this works very well for me in those really extreme twists, putting the twist exactly where I want it.
