Is this a bad idea?

A little history. I am building a Night Heron. The chine on the stern half is very hard. when I started on the chine my strips started to pull away from the forms on the stern ( all the forms past the cockpit). I tried puting a wet towel on the strips for 1 hr. then pulling them in with a racthet belt. this cracked a strip at the start of the chine. I continued striping untill I was ready to put in the keel strips. I tried the rachet belt again without water and using strip scraps along the inner edge. this worked!! I have put racthet belts on all the ofending forms, put a damp towel over the chine and soked it. Now I am planning to leave the towel on overnight remove it in the morning and start striping tomorrow night. good idea or bad?
