: Maybe a year ago someone mentioned that they had installed a switch in-line

Dean,
Not sure if the speed controller will work with all power tools but I use one with my single speed router. It really makes a difference slowing the speed while using the router to mill the thickness of cedar strips with my Stripmill™
I found mine at a Woodworkers Warehouse store.
