Thanks for the feedback. I've done a Hiawatha and I understand the problem--the bilge and keelline turns were so tight in places even my knife-edge strips wouldn't come together perfectly. But it was a great learning experience--I got really good at my fairing and gap-filling techniques!
The other builder's post indicate I may be confusing cutter radius and cutter diameter. Paul is right that my "standard" cutters for canoe-builders making a full cut and leaving a knife edge in 1/4" stock must be 1/8" radius or 1/4" diameter. So I guess what I'm searching for are 3/16" radius (3/8" diameter) cutters.
Questions: Did you use 3/8" radius cutters, or 3/8" diameter cutters for your stips on the Hiawatha? And were the gaps only on the outside of the hull?
