Thanks very much for the complete response. You really gave me something to think about.
I've been reading and learning from this thread, and I think I have a plan...I figure I'll hand plane one edge of my board, then cut off a strip. I'll put the planed side inside the boat. When I get all of the strips made and attached in this fashion, I'll run one or several of my 35+ planes over the outside. I have a couple of curved planes that might do the inside curves.
I also have a hand plane for widening dados that might help in adjusting the edges of strips to make better strip to strip fitting for the glue joints (I'm not doing cove and bead). Has anyone out there tried it this way? - Scott E.
