I made a Cape Ann from One Ocean Kayaks and while the directions certainly didn't tell me to do it, it wasn't a problem to run the strips across the cockpit. It served no real purpose but my neighbors thought I was building a one man sub. There was a 3" difference in the form heights front to rear of the cockpit but the strips took it without problem.

I'm at the 3rd coat of linear polyurethane and I'll be done, finally. Looks pretty good, got to get it wet. I'll post some pictures when it's fitted out.
