The shop I work in stocks walden boats, those foot braces are a good idea, but I would try to get away from the seat. on longer trips, it tends to put the legs asleep. The best footbraces I've seen are the plastic keepers. they are relatively easy to adjust on the fly, and slide MUCH better then the aluminum ones. I really like solid foot braces over ones with straps though, mounting wise, just go through the hull. the hardware provided with the keepers is made to go through glass boats, so they work well for wood. same with the walden ones, you have to mount the tracks for the foot braces to somthing.

For a very comfy seat, you should look at the snap dragon backbands. they make one with a solid plastic strip with a series of holes in it for mounting. and they also to one with straps. I found that you can put a screw under the deck up into the coaming. where it is hidden, and mount the straps for the backband off of those screws. or just go through the deck, and glass over the head of the screw.

for a seat, the only way to go is to carve it out of closed cell fome. I had one that I could sit in all day without moving. seriously. The key is putting the holes through the seat where you sit bones are, nerve chord that runs under that bone is where most of the nerves to your legs pass. holes like in the old lexan sayer canoe seats make al the defferance in the world.
