: If you want a smooth finish, try this. Slip a length of heat shrink tube onto
: the bungee. Then take hold of both ends of bungee lay along side each
: other and stretch to the reguired tightness, peg or clamp together.
: Tightly bind with nylon of 3-6kgs. The more binds the stronger it will be.
: Slip the tube over the binding and heat by pouring boiling water over it.
: Make sure the tube length is longer then the binding to allow it to
: overlap and seal the ends of the bungee.
: This has never let me down and you can match the colour of the tube to your
: kayak. The disadvantage is there are no bulky knots to help slip you
: paddle under the bungee, but beads can take the knots place.

Grant has the best idea, it's clean and smooth lookng but I'm too lazy for all the wrapping with string. I use stainless steel C rings (hog rings) to cinch the two pieces together, then cover with the heat shrink tubing but I use a heat gun to shrink the tubing. I never tried hot water but it sounds like a good way to prevent damaging the bungie.
