I just finished varnishing my Coho after completing it last summer... once it floated, i didn't want to spend any more time working on it...i just wanted to get it in the water. After finishing sanding, i hosed it off outside throughly, then brought it inside (to our living room), wiped it down again with a damp paper towel, followed by a tack cloth, then varnished according to Rob Mack's method (search for it...it was posted about a month ago...) With 1 quart of captain's varnish, I did 3 hull coats, and 4 deck coats. I used foam brushes, and found that if you throw them in a zip lock bag, then put them in the fridge, they will last you 2 days. I varnished the hull one day, the deck the next, then wet sanded and repeated the next.
I strongly recommend Rob's method. It took all my apprehensions out of varnishing, and I really got results far beyond my expectations. I had no problems with drying times (it was tacky for about 8 hours, hard after about 16), and was able to flip it over without the finish being too soft...
best of luck...
