Do yourself a favor and DON'T start your stitch and glue boat without reading Chris K.'s book on S&G construction. It contains quite a lot of good information for first time builders and includes plans for three or four very nice boats. While Nick's book is more oriented to the strip building process, I also would highly recommend it as containing a wealth of info on more advanced techniques. (And as you can see, the participants in this forum are a wonderful souce of info and help on just about any issue you may encounter...)
Other mandatory sources of info should include any and all info you can get regarding the particular epoxy you choose. They all have some unique characteristics and most of the manufacturers (and vendors) will have info to help you get a nice, finished product.
