: Bobby,
: It looks great.
: I had similar thoughts about varnishing top and bottom at the same time. One
: idea would be to pass a metal or otherwise sturdy rod through the holer
: for the grab loops in the bow and stern. Then you could tie to those on
: both sides, hoist the boat in the air, and work on both sides. The rod
: would have to be quite snug to balance the boat.
: I ended up taking the long way home, and varnishing top and bottom
: separately.
: Good Luck,
: Angela
Hi angela
good idea. an alternative may be to mask the loops and just hang by one end and spin it while spraying.
and(hehehe) lay it on real thick and let the drips be sculptural waves in the direction of the yak motion.
to be more serious, the way i have been contemplating if I do something similar either in glass or varnish(not sure yet) would be to make (or use if appropriate) 2 forms that fit just 6inches back on the inside of each end of the cockpit and attach a stiff leg to each, separated by a stiffener. Conceptually like 2 flat suckers stiffly separated on the forms and stems. (could even make the 'forms' split to make real snug.) Like if the cockpit is say 24in long, the forms would be rigidly spaced by 12-14in., (32in long, separation by say 20in).
then all you'd have to do is fix or hang the rigid stem,(as well as masking webbing if necessary) and could glass or varnish or spray all over.
