Hi Richard,

Consider installing a front bulkhead and hatch for reasons of safety. You mentioned putting in an airbag in the front of the kayak. Unless its one El� Hugo airbag, it won�t have near the displacement of a bulk head. The cockpit volume should be as low as possible so that in case of a capsize, you will have maximum floatation from your fore and aft bulkheads and you�ll take on a minimum amount of water. In a bad situation, you�ll have better control and be able to remove water taken on in the cockpit quicker.
