Hi John,

EPS is often used as dock flotation up here in the great white north while it does an admirable job, it also makes makes a wonderful warm home for mice and muskrats that burrow into it. Surprisingly and although it is touted as closed cell it will soak up a surprising amount of water over time. It also breaks down quite quickly when exposed to UV radiation and is easily dissolved by many petrolium products (adhesives and solvents).

I think I read in an earlier post that you intend to seal it with epoxy and glass in your bow and stern for flotation, that would eliminate exposure to water and UV but it might be wise to try a test piece first to see if there is any adverse reaction to the epoxy.
