Now’s the time to hop onto the SOF bandwagon. The new book by Robert Morris is sure to rebuild and start anew the interest in this wonderfully organic boat building system. Hmm… is it just me or did that sound like an advertisement?

Interesting idea. My concern is that all those holes would weaken the stringers in the boat. This boat is already riddled with a bazillion holes for screws or dowels. If the stringers were notched, they would be weakened. The skin also has a tendency to conform to just about any shape or contour.

Life with removable airbags seams to be part of the personality of SOF’s. They have higher maintenance than other boats but who’d ever thought a piece of cloth stapled to a stick frame would float?
