Re: Rope as a coaming lip
In Response To: Rope as a coaming lip (Dave Seales)
Hi-
I've used climbing rope as a coaming rim on two skin-on-frame boats I've built. Seems to work just fine. I lashed the rope onto the coaming, no epoxy used. I traced the outline of the coaming, and had a custom spray skirt made by Whetstone/KayakStore. Only cost a few dollars more, excellent skirt and the fit is perfect.
The rop ehas a nice nautical look too.

: I've read somewhere about using a length of rope to form a coaming lip. I dug
: out a piece of 5/8 poly rope and wrapped it around my lipless coaming and
: it looks like it would be perfect if I tinted the epoxy so you couldn't
: see the rope. Has any one tried this?
