: First I want to thank everyone who responded to my previous post on this
: subject Spidy"s site was espically helpful with the step about
: filletting around the foam tape. I was wondering what kept the foam from
: compressing during the lay-up process. My next question has to do with the
: timing of this operation. I assume the fillet nees to cure or partially
: cure prior to the layers of glass and epoxy, How Long? One Ocean seems to
: indicate that the lay-up comes off the mold partially cured as well so as
: to be able to extract the foam, again How Long? Any help would be greatly

Scott,
I used Vaclav's hatch lips also. I don't think I let the filet set very long. I usually just lay a fairly stiff fillet and immediately apply cloth (no patience). The foam probably does compress a little but that doesn't seem to make any difference. Be careful that the fillet is completely contacting the foam or you will have voids to fill later. I think I waited a day before pulling the contact paper. The foam, I waited a couple days. it scraped off with a wood chisel pretty easily. I use a pair of Wiss aviation snips to cut the exact shape while the hatch lips were still green, finishd with a file.
