I have Farmers for my first car insurance. The very first accident, I was notified by the other party that my agent could not find my policy. I called my agent(I just started working at that time and was 100 miles away from school) my agent claimed that I was not covered and hanged up on me. Luckily the dent was really minor and the other party just dropped the case for I had no money to pay.
Years ago, my tree in my backyard fell on to my fence pulling down a good 60 feet section. The estimate was $1500, but Farmers paid only $200 even. Their reason: tree cutting was included but not removal, I needed to split the cost with my neighbor, and the high deductable. Needless to say I left and am much happier with State Farm. End result: they lost -- my premium is much higher than $1500. Why they do that? who knows!
As for getting insurance, it is much better to check arround!
: Years ago I was with State Farm, and when I had the sailboat, they were quite
: clueless as to insuring it, and sky high as a result. I ended up going to
: Farmers for the boat insurance, and eventually all of my policies. Then
: Farmers treated me badly, and by then I didnt have the boat anymore, so
: went back to State Farm. I havent checked with them on the kayaks, I
: suspect the $1000.00 holds true here too.
