Wow, sounds like I really struck a nerve here. As most of the people on this board are interested in functonality as much or more than aesthetics, there is still a great apreciation for craftsmanship (as demonstrated by all the responses to the more artistic builders who regularly post here). From a purely woodworking perspective, (compared to high end furniture makers, etc.) Phil's work appears to be among the best. Never having paddled a Woodsong canoe, cannot comment on the design from a functionality standpoint.

Watch it Rob. Perhaps I was overstating the quality of Woodsong boats, as I have only seen what is presented on the web (being on the west coast, I have not seen one of these boats in person), but what I have seen is definitely worth admiration. There is far more there than just 'gloss and glitter.' And just because one's sense of design differs from yours, you shouldn't assume one has no training in it. (That's about as close to flaming as I'll get).

It appears that you value form and function more than execution, as do most of us on this board. But, hey, even though his may not be boats that you have any interest in building or paddling, can't you give Phil some credit for creating canoe shaped artwork that looks good?
