I would recommend you just do the shear strips. It's hard to keep them from breaking apart when you have three 8' strips scarfed. Also, if they are C&B, that helps hold everything in place after the shear is on. I used tiny little c-clamps "online" to hold them. It's amazing when you plane and sand over them how professional it looks. Dont sweat it too much. Good luck. JJ.
