: I'm about to get started stripping the boat, but I don't have any long
: lengths of material(most around 8 to 10ft). Would it be a good idea for me
: to scarf and join a pile of strips before starting or just the shear
: strips?
if you have kept track of how the 8ft strips came off the board, and if you scarf the touching ends but with the touching faces (the ones separated by the kerf only) upward or downward(the next is the reverse, you can get continously matching grain and colour for whatever lengths you want. on the upside the grain mismatch is only the kerf and whatever you sand, on the downside the grain mismatch is the kerf plus 2x the strip thicness - but it may be worth it. i'd check it out first. the colour'd be close.
basically continuous longitudinal bookmatching. but in a zig-zag fashion.
