cloth amount for tape

Seems that most folks are cutting bias tape from cloth. Nick's Material List for the Guillemot calls for 82 feet of 1 inch tape and 41 feet of 2 inch tape.

Two questions....what angle is the tape cut from the cloth? 45?
How much 38in cloth should I buy to cut the tape I'll need.

Anyone have any reasons to avoid glass from Raka?
