: I'm building a Chesapeake 16. I cut out the hull panels about a month ago
: today I finally got caught up with the LIST and was thinking about wireing
: them togeather. The keel line of the bottom panels is not fair. This may
: be due to an unfair batten I used to lay this panel out, or mabe I screwed
: up in my measurements. I'm thinking that since the edge of the panels that
: will become the chine is fair I can pull the widths at the stations and
: subtract about 1/8" and strike a fresh line through these points and
: come up with a slightly narrower hull. Any thoughts? Thanks.

My thoughts, but do call CLC.

It is most important that the panels are identical. Be sure to clamp them together, outside face to outside face, and plane and/or sand them together to the exact same shape. This will help keep your boat symmetrical.

Changing the panels by refairing them will modify the shape of the final boat. If it is the shear line don't worry too much because it is above the waterline and the deck is cut to match the shear clamps. As long as the lines are fair it will look fine. If it is below the waterline (chines or keel) keep modifying the panels to a minimum and if you must remove material inside the layout lines try to remove amounts proportional to the width of the design panel.
