: Thanks Shawn. How far from the stern / bow should the Bulkhead's be fixed?
: How do I know how much leg room I need?
: Mike
The back bulkhead is no problem. As Don said, give yourself some storage room behind the seat, then the bulkhead (foam or wood), and the 12" Shawn mentioned. The front bulkhead will be determined by the placement of your foot pegs. Don mentioned the sitting against the wall method. Good method, but watch out for what I did. I sat with my back against the wall, had my son measure to my pointed toes, but didn't pay attention to what part of my back was hitting the wall. Either because of highly developed upper back muscles or old age curvature of the spine setting in, the part of my back that hit the wall was closer to the shoulder blades than the small of the back which would be against a back rest in the kayak. This errant wall measurement plus 3 or 4 inches off the coaming determined the middle of my Yakima footbraces. After moving my seat back as far as possible to improve tracking, I'm now on the closest setting for my foot braces. This is fine for my sons which are taller than me, but a real problem for my wife.
What this long winded dissertationn is leading to is, pay close attention to your foot brace placement than the above advice for the the placement of bulkheads and hatches follows nicely.
Good luck,
Ron Larson
