Seriously, though, you have two choices: Bulkhead footrest, or a bulkhead with an adjustable footrest. I have a solid bulkhead footrest that is glassed in, and strong enough for me to brace against. The easiest way to determine location is to sit in the boat and make some rough marks. You might try test-fitting a piece of cardboard or cheap styrofoam to set in place, then see if you need to push it forward or pull it back. I have mine tipped forward slightly for a bit more toe room.

If you have a foam bulkhead, or will be installing footbraces, put the bulkhead slightly farther forward, and install your footbraces.

The easiest

There are two schools of thought with regard to the back bulkhead placement. 1) Bulkhead right behind the seat which allows you to invert the boat and drain it quickly. 2) Bulkhead about 6-12" behind the seat which allows you to store stuff back there. I subscribe to #1. If you put the bulkhead farther behind the seat, it's difficult to remove that last couple gallons of water, more volume in the cockpit makes a swamped boat take on even more water, and it's difficult to access stuff back there, so you might as well have it in a drier compartment anyway. There is decent storage area under your legs, and next to your legs ahead of the seat.

Slanting the bulkhead so the top is farther back than the bottom will give you even more rear compartment space and further limit the volume of the cockpit.
